Carving of Lady Liberty

American

Early 20th century

Walnut

10 ½”

This folk carving depicts lady liberty holding the Union shield. The figure features a carved star in her hair and an elegant flowing dress. The figure is attached to a base with geometric carvings. There is a small half-round shape carved into the base, likely to hold matches.

WHY WE LOVE IT: The folk carving survives with a lovely original patina.
