Pair of Staffordshire Lions

Staffordshire, England

Circa 1810

Ceramic

9 1/2″ H x 11″ W x 5 1/4″ S

Based off the Roman lions, they were copied by the Medici family for their villa in Rome.  These examples were considered extremely elegant and high-style decoration.

From the collection of author Gail Sheehy.

WHY WE LOVE IT: The lions are a pair yet each has a different look almost as if they are reacting to one another.
