Pennsylvania, Possible Chester County

Walnut throughout

Circa 1790

29 3/4 " H x 34" W x 34 1/2" D

This beautiful walnut tea table was found in a Maryland collection. The piece is comprised of a two-board top with a finely turned dish molding that is supported by bird cage. The central shaft turning features a suppressed ball turning that is a unusual interpretation of the popular Philadelphia style as it is slightly larger than what is normally seen. The tripod base is consisting of three cabrio legs that are slightly peaked that flow into a simple pad foot. The close interpretation to the popular Philadelphia yet straying away from the standard points to an orgin in the counties surrounding Philiadelphis, possibly Chester County.

A desirable smaller example from the group, sympathetic to neoclassical size and verticality. The cupboard exhibits attention to architectural form with extensive paneling and fine moldings.
Paint conservation by Peter Deen.

English
Circa 1740-1760
Mahogany, original silvered, beveled glass
18.5" W; 59" H

This George II pierced shell looking glass survives in overall original condition complete with original glass and back board, a rare find. The glass is also beveled and the frame highlighted by original water gilding.

WHY WE LOVE IT: Large early Georgian mirrors really make me happy! To think of the gilt work, wood work, and silvered glass, they were such important elements in an 18th century home.

Philadelphia

Mahogany

Circa 1780

33.5" H; 40" W; 21" D

The Philadelphia quarter-column chest of drawers is a standard in collecting American furniture. This chest survives in excellent overall condition, retaining a rich finish, original brasses, and robust ogee bracket feet. This chest would make a wonderful and useful addition to any collection.

WHY WE LOVE IT: In the antiques world you always hear how important condition is. This piece is a great chest to study for condition. It has original brass, a rich, early surface and an undisturbed secondary surface. This piece can stand on its own in a formal setting or extremely useful in a bedroom.
