Philadelphia Side Chair

Philadelphia
Circa 1750-1760
Walnut

This very early Philadelphia side chair likely dates to the mid-1750’s due to the elongated back and overall stance of the chair. The pierced splat form is also early. Nice example in a great, original finish with a carved shell and ball and claw feet.

Why we love it:  This chair shows the transition between Queen Anne and Chippendale. The longer back with the elaborate ears are more Queen Anne traits that are incorporated into a Chippendale form.  Not to mention this chair has a great surface.
