Reverse Serpentine Chest

Possibly Benjamin Frothingham

Boston, Massachusetts or surrounding area

1775

Mahogany primary with white pine secondary

33″ W (case); 32.5″ H; 18″ D

This chest is highly unusual as it is truly a gentleman’s dressing bureau.  It is complete with a brush slide and four graduated drawers.  While attributed to Boston, there are some construction features, like a large dovetail under the central part of the case, that previously has been attributed to maker Benjamin Frothingham.  Its diminutive size, original brass, and original finish make this little chest a very special piece.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This was the last piece that I purchased from a dear friend.  His excitement and willingness to help a young dealer will always keep this piece close to my heart.
