Sideboards are a form that were made from New England down into the South. It is funny that most of them tend to be in the same range of size. However, a group of Newport, Rhode Island Sideboards are well known for their diminutive size. The dramatic shaping of the front creates a powerful piece of furniture. This piece survives with an excellent patena, original brass, and unbelievable figured mahogany along with fine satin wood inlays. This piece would be at home in the finest large estate or a small apartment where it could easily stand on its own and not take up too much space.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Scale, condition, and scarcity, this piece has it all.
