“Starless” by DuRoc Messenger

18″ H; 24″ W

Augustus Langwig was a noted equestrian artist who worked primarily in New Jersey. While he isn’t a formally trained equestrian artist, Langwig’s paintings are filled with a wonderful folky style. He died around 1923, placing this painting around the turn of the century.  It is always nice to have an identified racehorse and their sire.

WHY WE LOVE IT: Starless is giving you the perfect side eye. There is a folky charm to his painting and I really feel Langwig captured the personality of the horse.
