Eagles are an iconic American symbol. This weathervane, attributed to J.W. Fiske and Company, depicts an eagle perched atop a ball. The lower ball is a later addition. These eagle weathervane models that of a weathervane found in an early twentieth-century catalog of J.W. Fiske. J.W. Fiske was one of the prominent manufacturers of decorative cast iron and zinc weathervanes. Not only did they produce weathervanes, but they also manufactured garden ornaments such as fountains. Fiske would produce catalogs that illustrated weathervanes for the New York audience.
