Painting of Dark Bay Horse

By John McAuliffe (1830-1900)

New York

Dated 1865

17.25” H; 23.5” W (sight)

This is a striking painting of a horse with a white marking on his back.  Unfortunately we do not know the name of the horse but he is presented in a  beautiful landscape with barns and houses in the background.  McAuliffe was an Irish immigrant who came to America and began working as a house painter.  He hung around the tracks a little too much and became noted as a horse artist.

WHY WE LOVE IT: You can never go wrong with a horse painting in any room!
