Labeled Robert Jones Saddler, Boston
Boston, Mass
Black leather with brass tacks
Mid 19th Century
10” L x 6 1/4” D x 5” H
It’s very rare to find a 19th Century American box that retains its original paper label. That label identifies it as produced by “Robert Jones, SADDLER, 200 Tremont, near Court Street, BOSTON. Manufacturer of TRUNKS, VALICES, CARPET BAGS, Ladies Dress and Bonnet Boxes, HARNESSES, & G. REPAIRING NEATLY EXECUTED”. The exterior is covered in black leather with a leather strap handle and decorated with brass nailheads on edges and on top. The interior is lined with original period blue marbleized paper upon which the label is affixed. A brass lock and key (retained) finish off a delightful period box.
