Americana Batch #1-73

A View of the Statehouse in Philadelphia

By George Heap

London

Dated 1752

Engraving on paper

This print was made for one of the largest British magazines of the 18th century.  It depicts the fine architecture that was being constructed in America at the time.  Little did they know that this building would serve as the home of rebellion against their beloved crown in just a few years.

WHY WE LOVE IT: The irony.
