American Still-life Tole Tray

American
Third quarter 19th century
Tole-painted tin
27.75″ W; 19″ H

American toleware painted tray in a rectangular form, retaining likely original Hitchcock-style stenciled decoration, and still-life of an overflowing wire basket of fruit against a Hudson Valley-style landscape back drop.

WHY WE LOVE IT: Painted in the mid to late 19th century, these trays are true works of art.  Not only for the still life painting, but in the background, there is a beautiful Hudson River landscape that is simply charming.
