Petticoat Mirror

England
Late 18th century
Mahogany, oak, pine, mirror glass
13.75″ W; 18.5″ H

Arched “petticoat” mirror from the late 18th century. The frame consists of thick, nicely grained mahogany veneer over oak and the mirror is etched and beveled at the base and in the arch. Original pine backboards with good oxidation. Expected minor losses to the silvering.

Provenance: Dr. Dale and Ann Knight Gutman, Cincinnati, Ohio Purchased from Bobbie Pries 18th & 19th Century Americana, Westfield Center, Ohio
WHY WE LOVE IT: These Georgian mirrors are tough to find and the engraving on the glass is simply spectacular.
