The figures that inhabit this bustling street scene remind one of Shakespeare’s notion that “all the world’s a stage”. Barely visible in the dark of a photo booth a couple embrace while a father lifts his young daughter on the street, a naked woman leans out of a second story window to get the attention of a passerby and a sleeping sailor – post a night of drinking? – lounges at the lower left. The scene has a theatrical feel and a painting style that leans towards Duncan’s budding abstraction.
